Panchroma Silk PLA Sunset Gold-Red 1000g Polymaker

PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk – two-colour silk effect

PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk is a two-color (dichromatic) Silk PLA filament for 3D printing, produced with two different colors that create an impressive two-color effect on the model.

The perfect choice for creating unique, eye-catching multi-color prints with an elegant surface finish that conceals layers.

Made from high quality materials, PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk combines the luxury and sophistication of the silk effect with the versatility and ease of Silk PLA printing.

Features

  • Dichromatic Silk Finish – PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk is a high quality two-color filament that creates a beautiful and dynamic color transition in your 3D models[1].
The silk effect is achieved without the need for post-processing and gives a smooth, elegant look suitable for a variety of applications such as jewelry, home decor or fashion accessories.
  • Compatibility First – PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk is an easy-to-print filament compatible with a wide range of popular extrusion 3D printers[2].
(In some cases, a heated work plate may be required.) With excellent print quality and impressive visual impact, PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk is the perfect choice for your next standout project.
  • Easy to print – PolyLite™ PLA Silk works well with many standard printing surfaces. A heated plate is optional, but may be recommended for certain surfaces or geometries for better results (up to 60°C).
  • Uncompromising quality – PolyLite™ PLA Silk is a PLA-blend manufactured from high quality raw materials including Ingeo® from NatureWorks. NatureWorks is a leading US-based global supplier of biopolymers with a portfolio of high-quality PLA materials made from rapidly renewable plant resources.
The combination of Polymaker’s innovative R&D technologies, advanced compounding and extrusion systems with Ingeo® resins ensures a reliable 3D printing filament for beautiful and precise models.

[1] See “Settings and Specifications” for tips on printing and achieving the smoothest two-color effect.

[2] Please note that it is not possible for Silk PLA filament to be completely resistant to heat creep; therefore, PolyLite™ PLA Dual Silk does not feature the Jam-Free™ technology used in other PolyLite™ PLA filaments. This may affect compatibility with printers that have heat creep issues. In such cases, we recommend using a PLA filament with Jam-Free™ technology. For some printers, heat creep issues can be resolved by a different hot end design.

Print settings

Nozzle temperature 190°C – 230°C
Temperature of the working plate 25°C – 60°C
Printing surface material Works well with most surfaces, e.g. glass, blue tape, BuildTak®
Surface treatment Usually not necessary. Some surfaces work well with Ecofixy adhesive.
Cooling fan ON.
Print speed 40 mm/s – 60 mm/s
Recommended maintenance material Single extruder: Self-supporting
Double extruder: PolyDissolve™ S1 or PolySupport™

Note: Based on 0.4 mm nozzle. Print conditions may vary depending on printer and nozzle diameter.

Tips for printing with two-colour (Dichromatic) filament

  1. Dual colour filaments print best when the outer perimeters of the pattern are printed in the same direction for each layer. Not all slicers do this by default. The tool path direction can be seen in the slider’s preview mode.
  2. PolyLite™ Dual Silk PLA is carefully wound to maintain proper color alignment on the spool. For best results, make sure the filament does not twist in the feed path. If twisting occurs during printing, the position of the two colors will shift resulting in a striping effect. Some users like this effect, others do not. Slight twisting is normal on most 3D printers, but excessive twisting can depend on the spool mount, hotend, and extruder design. Using a high quality dual tooth direct drive extruder and a properly positioned spool (no twist) can reduce this effect.
  3. Smaller melting zones are more suitable for two-colour filaments. The effect works because 3D printers extrude material with laminar flow and the two colors do not mix. Volcano-style hotend or CHT-style nozzles can cause mixing, which reduces the visual two-color effect.
  4. It is useful to print an “alignment coin” to find out exactly where the transition between colours will appear. The angle will be different for each printer configuration, but if the printer and spool remain in the same orientation, the alignment usually does not change from spool to spool.

Tips for printing with Silk PLA

  1. It is not recommended to use Silk PLA on printers that have heat creep problems.
  2. Under normal conditions Silk PLA should provide a high gloss finish. At high printing speeds, however, the material may not melt well enough, resulting in a dull or uneven surface. For a better result:
    • Use lower speed for perimeters
    • Limit volumetric flow to 8 mm³/s
    • Try a slightly higher nozzle temperature

STORAGE AND DRYING

All plastics are hygroscopic, which means they absorb moisture from the air. This can affect print quality and the strength of printed parts. The rate of absorption depends on the material and environmental conditions.

Polymaker’s PolyLite™ Dual Silk PLA filaments are factory dried and packaged in a vacuum bag with a desiccant to ensure maximum print quality. When not in use, the filament should be stored away from direct sunlight and sealed in the original resealable packaging.

Although filaments can be dried, frequent drying accelerates the aging process of the plastic and can make it more brittle over time. The best solution is to prevent moisture absorption from the start. For long-term storage, we highly recommend using an airtight container with a dry desiccant that maintains a relative humidity between 10-20% RH.

In our test conditions, we manage the filaments using Polymaker PolyDryer™, which provides class-leading sealing and moisture protection.

If you hear crackling sounds during printing, the surface of the pattern is uneven, or the color is not consistent, it probably means that the filament has absorbed too much moisture.

PolyLite™ Dual Silk PLA spools can be dried with Polymaker PolyDryer™ at power level 1. Alternatively, if you have a convection oven with precise control at low temperatures, you can dry the filament in a preheated oven at 55°C for up to 6 hours. Results may vary depending on the accuracy of the oven, so approach with care.
