Polymaker PolyDissolve S1 Filament

PolyDissolve™ S1 is a water-soluble filament for PLA, TPU, PVB and nylon based “spores” from the Polymakers portfolio. It has been specifically developed to have a perfect interface with these materials while exhibiting good solubility.

We recommend that this material be used with PolyBox™ to always maintain dry conditions (15% relative humidity or less) to maintain the best printing results.

  • Complex geometry – PolyDissolve™ S1 is the preferred solution for printing complex geometries, overhangs, internal cavities and complex structures. It frees you from the hassle of removing “spoilers” and allows for greater design freedom.
  • Broad material support – PolyDissolve™ S1 is designed to have good adhesion and perfect interface with various supported Polymaker materials including Nylon, PLA, TPU and PVB.
  • Water Soluble – Optimized to dissolve in water, “spores” printed with PolyDissolve™ S1 will dissolve in tap water. Safe and readily available!
  • Improved Surface Quality – Significantly improve the surface quality where “sports” bond to your parts when you use PolyDissolve™ S1.
  • Quality Control – Polymakers’ industry-leading quality control process and rigorous in-house testing ensures reliable printing and consistency across all spools and batches.

PLA 3D printed bones

Bones 3D printed from PolyLite™ PLA with PolyDissolve™ S1.

When printing some materials or parts with complex geometry, removing “spoilers” can be very difficult and time consuming. Sometimes special tools are needed to separate the supports from the model and in many cases the print can fail due to problems associated with the “supports”.

PolyMide CoPA Nylon

Manifold 3D printed from PolyMide™ CoPA with PolyDissolve™ S1 “spores”.

Specifically developed as a soluble carrier material for a wide range of plastics, PolyDissolve™ S1 can be dissolved in tap water, simplifying and in many ways automating the difficult part of the ‘spoil’ removal process. With water soluble “spores” users can print more complex and delicate geometries and remove “spores” safely without the risk of breaking the part.

PolyFlex TPU95 PVA

Coral 3D printed from PolyFlex™ TPU95 with PolyDissolve™ S1 “sports”.

PolyDissolve™ S1 softens and dissolves in plain tap water. The dissolving process can be accelerated by regular replacement, stirring or using heated water.

PolyCast 3D Print

3D printing from PolyCast™ with PolyDissolve™ S1.

PolyDissolve™ S1 has become the preferred choice for many users due to its compatibility with a wide range of materials. Traditionally, removing “spores” from materials such as nylon and TPU can be more difficult, but with PolyDissolve™ S1 it is easy. Designed to bond perfectly with Polymakers PLA, TPU, PVB and Nylon based filaments, with PolyDissolve™ S1 you don’t need to invest in a unique support material for each different material type.

Polymaker PolyDissolve S1 Filament

All Polymaker products are developed by Polymaker’s experienced R&D team to provide new optimized and innovative material solutions for the industry. Whether it’s improving reliability and print experience (Warp-Free™, Jam-Free™) or maximizing material performance and functionality (Layer-Free™, Nano reinforcement). Polymakers’ patented technologies and extensive portfolio continue to provide empowering solutions to customers internationally, from automotive manufacturers and construction companies to contractors and home builders.

Industry leading quality control

PolyDissolve S1 - natural - filament for sports - natural - Polymaker

  1. PolyDissolve™ S1, like all other Polymaker materials, is manufactured using state-of-the-art polymer processing technology and equipment. Polymaker’s rigorous quality control process ensures industry standards of reliability for consistent customer service.
  2. Tolerance: Polymakers’ custom-developed extrusion, inspection and monitoring solutions ensure that filament tolerance (typical tolerance ± 0.02 mm) and roundness meet Polymakers’ stringent quality standards.
  3. Reliable, mechanical, coloring and printing properties:Each batch of filament products is tested to ensure that all quality specifications (melt flow, softening point, mechanical characteristics, diameter, roundness) are met.
  4. Drying and Vacuum Sealing: Before being packaged, all Polymaker filaments are dried to a < 0.1% moisture level to ensure the best print quality, and vacuum sealed to protect the filaments from moisture. All vacuum sealed products are allowed to sit for 24 hours before being boxed to ensure no leaks.

Packaging

  1. Sealable pouch: PolyDissolve™ S1 is packaged in a resealable aluminum foil pouch to ensure your filament does not get wet. Like all PVA-based materials, PolyDissolve™ S1 is hygroscopic, so we highly recommend that you keep this bag for storing your filament.

Works best with :
Supports pattern very well
– PLA-based materials (such as PolyLite™ PLA, PolyMax™ PLA, PolyWood™)
– TPU-based materials (such as PolyFlex™ TPU95)
– PVB-based materials (such as PolyCast™ and PolySmooth™)
– Nylon-based materials (such as PolyMide™ CoPA, PolyMide™ PA6-CF and PolyMide™ PA6-GF)

Generally supports the model depending on its geometry:
– PETG-based materials (such as PolyLite™ PETG and PolyMax™ PETG)

Storage and drying

  • Before packaging, PolyDissolve™ S1 is dried to ensure the best print quality and the filaments are vacuum sealed to protect them from moisture. When not in use, PolyDissolve™ S1 should be stored away from sunlight in the packaged resealable bag.
  • PVA is hygroscopic, so it is highly recommended to store PolyDissolve™ S1 in a PolyBox™ or dry cabinet during printing to prevent moisture absorption that will reduce print quality. PolyBox™ stores the filament under dry conditions (relative humidity 15% or less).
  • If you hear popping sounds and notice that the surface quality of your print is uneven or the color is not consistent, this is a likely indicator that the filament has absorbed too much moisture. PolyDissolve™ S1 spools can be dried in a preheated convection oven at 80˚C for up to 12 hours. Results may vary depending on the accuracy of your oven, so please be conservative.

Compatibility

  • PolyDissolve™ S1 has been developed with compatibility in mind to bond perfectly with Polymaker PLA, PVB, TPU and Nylon filaments and print perfectly on a wide range of professional 3D printers.
  • To print soluble “composites” of different materials, a dual extrusion 3D printer is needed that can print both the modeling and support material at different temperatures (i.e., left nozzle at 200˚C and right nozzle at 215˚C).
  • Of course, with thousands of unique 3D printer models on the market, we can’t guarantee that every type of filament will work with every 3D printer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How can I dissolve my “sports”?
A: PolyDissolve™ S1 can be dissolved in plain tap water. Dissolving time depends on many factors, including the volume of the “support” material. Partial removal of any large support structures prior to immersion can significantly speed up the process for large models. Immerse the remaining model in plain tap water to dissolve the rest of the “support”. This process can be accelerated by stirring the water, using warm water (>50˚C) or changing the water regularly to reduce its concentration.

Question.
A: The preferred method of disposing of the polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) “garbage” material is in the trash. Submerging 3D printed objects in water containing carrier material will result in the formation of wastewater containing PVA. We recommend that you contact your local sewerage (wastewater) authority to obtain information on the correct method of disposal prior to disposal down the drain.

Q: Do I need to rewind this filament if I want to use it with another spool?
A: We strongly recommend not to interfere with the product by rewinding. All Polymaker filaments are wound with tension but without strain. Rewinding completely rearranges the curvature of the coil and this tension over time can cause most plastics to catastrophically break. If for some reason your printer is blocked from mounting smaller than standard size spools, there may be safe print adapters or external mounting solutions available.
