S1 – FLSUN
The FLSUN S1 3D printer features an unprecedented print speed of 1200 mm/s, three times faster than the original V400 and twice as fast as the modified V400 (2023 upgrade). The manufacturer retains the delta kinematics and large print volume of the S1 (∅ 320 x 430 mm), a machine that is marketed simultaneously with the Flsun T1. However, you will have to wait until at least February 20, 2024 to get your S1 in Europe.
1200 mm/s can be achieved with material designed for fast machines. Acceleration can reach 40,000 mm/s², which is twice as fast as the best consumer 3D printers currently on the market. The flow rate of 110 mm3/s ensures that the print head can maintain the pace required to achieve a Benchy boat in 8 minutes and 40 seconds. Ventilation should also be up to the task, with high flow rates: to this end, the fan rotates at 40,000 rpm, but noise pollution will be limited thanks to the Flsun S1’s closed housing: metal chassis and acrylic panels. In addition, a HEPA filter with activated carbon limits harmful emissions during printing.
ю
The 320mm diameter bed is covered with a flexible, textured PEI plate for easy removal of printed objects. The printing surface temperature can reach 120°C, either over the entire area or only part of it, depending on the size of the print object (Smart Zone Heating).
The following filaments are compatible with Flsun S1: PLA, PETG, ABS, TPU, PVA, PET, ASA, PA, PC, PLA with carbon fiber. Automatic levelling is performed using LIDAR, which checks the flatness of the tray and the possible presence of foreign bodies. Algorithms work to limit the resonance associated with very high print speeds.
The dryer box is built into the chassis of the Flsun S1, at the top of the cabinet. It maintains the correct temperature and humidity of the reel for use. The filament end detector stops printing so that the spool can be replaced without interrupting printing, just as it resumes after a power failure. The built-in camera can be used to remotely monitor jobs, create time-lapse video memory and detect printing errors (spaghetti, plate tear, etc.).
Although the manufacturer advertises “Flsun OS” as pre-installed firmware, this must be a customized version of Klipper, as with the V400 (test and video) and Speeder Pad (test). The 16 GB built-in data storage (eMMC) complements the USB port for plugging in a key with gcode files (32 GB USB key is supplied with the machine). A quad-core 1.7 GHz ARM A7 processor powers it all.
As for the slicer software, the manufacturer will offer Flsun Slicer, which we can’t test yet.
