PolyTerra Gradient PLA – Cappuccino POLYMAKER
PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA is a 3D printing filament with a transitional color that switches between different colors and shades during roll operation. Based on Polymakers PolyTerra™ Matte formula, this bioplastic filament is naturally sourced to provide ease of use, print quality, speed and reliability. It’s the perfect choice for easily creating colorful or multi-colored patterns with a smooth matte surface that hides layers.
Features
Gradient Transition – PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA combines the incredible matte finish of PolyTerra™ PLA with a series of stunning gradient color filaments. Each transition is designed to focus on a specific theme or color spectrum, providing a fun filament for hobbyists, educators, and small businesses. PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA is the ideal choice for printing dynamic and unique vases, artistic creations, statues and more.
Optimized for supports – PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA is designed with excellent support removal properties, allowing users to more easily remove supports from the surface of their prints.
High-speed printing capability – Polymaker has developed the base formulation of PolyTerra™ PLA with ideal flow properties to provide a filament that can print at high speeds (with the right hardware only).
Flexibility (X-Y) – PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA is softer than conventional PLA, providing better ductility in the horizontal X-Y axis compared to standard PLA formulations. While tests of standard PLA break in bending, PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA will tend to gradually bend and break along the horizontal axis.
Compatibility / Jam-Free™ – PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA is compatible with a wide range of 3D printers and is manufactured using Polymakers Jam-Free™ technology, which results in excellent print quality with zero risk of nozzle clogging caused by thermal creep [1]. PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA works well on most printed surfaces with a thin layer of adhesive applied, bed heating is not required but can sometimes be used at 40 – 50°C for better results (60°C maximum).
Uncompromising Quality – PolyTerra™ Gradient PLA Filament is made with the highest quality ingredients, including Ingeo® from Natureworks; a high-quality PLA material produced from rapidly renewable plant resources in the USA. Combining Polymakers’ innovative R&D technologies, mixing and extrusion systems with Natureworks’ Ingeo® resins yields a reliable 3D printing filament that prints beautiful and accurate models.
[1] Thermal creep is the process of non-uniform heat distribution throughout the hotend, which is a common example in all metal hotend structures.
Once the heat is spread to the cold end, the PLA filament softens prematurely at the cold end and expands, causing a jam.
Polymakers’ Jam-Free™ technology increases the heat resistance of the filament itself (not the printed part) up to 100˚C, which prevents the filament from softening prematurely at the cold end and can still melt quickly once it enters the heating zone.
Applications
With its cost-effective price and wide color range, PolyTerra™ PLA has quickly become one of our best-selling PLA filaments, especially among hobbyists and educators who love to print in PLA but are looking for a more sustainable Matte PLA composition. The combination of Polymakers FBC formula and fully recycled carton packaging are designed to help offer a more sustainable product and reduce the consumption of single-use plastic waste.
Offering a new type of PLA filament, PolyTerra™ PLA is a popular choice for printing:
- trinkets and figurines.
- Homeware and desk organizers.
- Non-standard fashion accessories.
- Replicas of props and exhibits.
- Low budget cosplay items.
- Medium and large tabletop buildings and backdrops.
- Different models, from which it is usually difficult to remove the support. (Not ideal for particularly thin or delicate items that may break when the support is removed)
- Architectural models and educational models.
Print settings
Nozzle temperature 190°C – 230°C
Building plate temperature 25°C – 60°C*
- *You may find that lower bed temperatures (e.g. 45°C) work better with PolyTerra™ PLA compared to higher temperatures.
- Build Surface Material – Compatible with most common build surfaces.
- Surface treatment for construction – Apply a thin layer of PVA or PVP adhesive.
- Cooling fan included
- Print speed 30 mm/s – 70 mm/s
- Retraction Ideal retraction settings vary by printer. If you find that the retraction settings are causing gaps in your part, the following settings may help.
- Direct drive: retraction distance of 0.5 – 1 mm with a retraction speed of 20 mm/s
- Bowden: Retraction distance of 2 – 3 mm with a retraction speed of 20 – 40 mm/s
- Recommended bearing material Single extrusion:
- Self maintenance
- Double extrusion:
- PolyDissolve™ S1 (dissolves in tap water)
- PolySupport™ (a support material that is easily detachable)
Based on a 0.4 mm nozzle. Printing conditions can vary between printers and nozzle diameters.
